Cyber expert Adam Powell
Adam C. Powell III will be the the guest of honour at the NetMedia '99 online journalism awards in London, 1st & 2nd July 1999. The event is part of the annual NetMedia conference that has grown enormously since its inauguration in 1995 to become Europe's premier Internet conference for journalists and media workers. NetMedia conferences are organised by Milverton Wallace of the journalism department City University. Powell is vice president for technology and programmes at The Freedom Forum, an international organisation supporting journalist education and freedom of expression. Late in 1998 he spoke to The Chronicle seminar "What Colour is the News?" on issues of diversity in newsrooms and news reporting. A world traveller and Internet expert, Powell has a wealth of professional expertise in online journalism and the media industry. His online and webcast technology debates from the Forum's US headquarters are widely noted. In London, Powell will be honoured by leading practitioners of computer-assisted journalism, web reporting, digital newsroom production, Internet broadcasting, online news, digital television, online design, and web authoring. NetMedia '99, says Wallace, is the only European Internet event devoted exclusively to examining how cybermedia technologies--the Internet and online services-- are changing journalistic practices. Its aim is to examine how journalists and media organisations are shaping up in the digital, wired age. NetMedia '99 is sponsored by Vignette, chello broadband n.v., Edelman, PRnet, Penton New Media, The Source, NEWSdesk, BRAD, New Media Age and FACSNET.
